LIBINA BIOCORRIDOR
IN 2019, WE IMPLEMENTED PARTIAL MEASURES AND LANDSCAPE MODIFICATIONS IN THE CADASTRAL AREA OF HORNÍ LIBINA, WHICH WERE ORIGINALLY USED AS ARABLE LAND.
THE DESIGNATED AREAS WERE TRANSFORMED INTO MEADOW STANDS WITH LINEAR PLANTINGS, PREDOMINANTLY OF FRUIT TREES. TERRAIN ADJUSTMENTS WERE CARRIED OUT ON SOME OF THE DESIGNATED AREAS, INCLUDING THE IMPLEMENTATION OF AN INFILTRATION DITCH. THE INFILTRATION DITCH WAS DIVIDED INTO INDIVIDUAL SECTIONS USING GABION DAMS, CREATING SEPARATE INFILTRATION COMPARTMENTS.
THE PURPOSE OF THE INFILTRATION DITCH IS TO RETAIN RAINWATER IN THE AREA, PREVENT ITS SURFACE RUNOFF INTO THE VALLEY, PROMOTE INFILTRATION INTO THE SOIL, AND THUS RETAIN IT AT THE POINT OF DISCHARGE. IN ADDITION TO WATER RETENTION IN THE LANDSCAPE, THE INFILTRATION DITCH PREVENTS FLASH FLOODS AND CONTRIBUTES TO REDUCING THE BURDEN ON SEWAGE SYSTEMS IN CITIES. IF THE DITCH IS GRASSED OR COVERED WITH OTHER VEGETATION, IT CAN ENHANCE LOCAL BIODIVERSITY.
